The best parts of my career journey were the times I worked as an administrative assistant. Whether I was slaving away in the file room or making three dozen copies of the Office Etiquette poster, I was getting stuff done. Tons of stuff.
In honor of Administrative Professionals Day, I pay homage to all of the GalFridays, Desk Slaves, and loyal secretaries around the world.
After all, without them the workplace would simply not be the same. Here are three things we can learn from top-notch administrative assistants to excel in any job.
3 Things We Can Learn From Administrative Assistants
1. They’re not afraid of hard work.
The best administrative assistants know that rolling up their sleeves is a part of the job. They don’t complain about having to work hard, no way — they love to impress the higher-ups with a can-do attitude. Admin assistants who love their work, work hard at it, which works in their favor because they know that their diligence will do one of two things: get them promoted or paid more. We can learn a thing or two from a good administrative assistant’s work ethic.
2. They can solve any problem. What don’t you like about a solution-oriented administrative assistant?
Printer gone down? No worries, she can fix it. Phone ringing off the hook? A good admin assistant has the desk under control! Somehow, an administrative professional approaches every tight situation with a peaceful goal in mind. She can please the angry customer and make the boss happy. Hats off to you!
3. There is no job too big or too small for an administrative assistant.
Truly, a humble office worker is the best one you can find. She doesn’t get offended when asked to tidy up the bathroom or get overwhelmed when she needs to help finish the payroll by 5 p.m. No. She’s always ready for the task and does everything with a smile.
Adopting these highly-favored qualities of a kick-ass administrative professional will help you keep a job and may even land you the job of your dreams!
