Analyzing Beauty Ingredients With Paige Padgett


Meet Paige Padgett, a green beauty expert with a passion for environmentalism and skincare. She has been featured in Health Magazine, Natural Solutions, Women’s Health, Elle, and many more. Paige is the go-to source for everything green beauty and has worked on celebrities such as Keanu Reeves and Jillian Michaels.

We chatted with Paige to gain some insight into how she’s contributing to the clean beauty revolution and how we can get involved.

Q: What is your background?
A: I am a green beauty expert. A makeup artist and Esthetician by trade green beauty was a natural progression for me over 10 years ago. I wrote the book The Green Beauty Rules to help others who are reluctant to green their beauty routines for one reason or another. I want women to know it can be every bit as glamorous. I immediately start the book out by busting the myths about green beauty straight away.

Q: What are some of your favorite tips included in the Green Beauty Rules?
A: Most women love my 80/20 rule since it gives them a lot of control and options for their beauty routine.

Avoid the Three P’s: parabens, perfume (fragrance) and petrochemicals.

Another one of my favorite tips is the Eco Attitudes which describes 3 different levels of sustainability in green beauty as beginner, pro and master. I encourage women to bounce between them and try to hit the middle (pro) as much as possible to maintain a healthy balance. I also list 6 toxic substances when inhaled that most people don’t know about. That’s a great tip!

Q: What essential oils can be triggers for sensitive skin?

A: Essential oils are highly effective and can be triggers for sensitive skin. Some essential oils are more likely to cause skin irritations than others, especially have a sensitive skin or allergic reactions. Here just a few know essential oils know to cause skin irritation.

    • Citronella
    • Clove

    • Peppermint

Q: What ingredients in skin care do you shy away from and which do you love?

A: I shy away from isopropyl alcohol and benzoyl peroxide as they are drying to the skin. I don’t like harsh cleansers that strip the acid mantle of my skin. I love vitamin C, peptides and hyaluronic acid. As well as aloe vera, seabuck thorn and other botanicals. In The Green Beauty rules, I list my favorite botanical all stars.

Q: What are some important things a lot of people don’t know about skincare?

A: Many people are too harsh and rough with their skin. The more you hydrate it, the less breakouts you will have. Generally, people think the opposite. Another thing is that a 15 SPF in your makeup isn’t generally enough for adequate sun protection. If you will not be getting more that 20 minutes of sun all day it may do the trick but if you see more sun than that you really should be using a 30 SPF that’s not in your makeup.

Q: Any other facts/tips you’d like to share?

A: Our skin is not only our biggest organ it is a major route of entry into our bodies. You can either use it to your advantage or to your detriment. You have a lot of control as to what you allow into your body not just through food, but through cosmetics as well. We have more options as ever.
