Between dropping off the kids to school, cooking, cleaning, and constantly checking our cell phones for emails and social media alerts, life can be fast-paced and hectic.
I find that slowing it down with a few concentrated minutes of stillness with God is much-needed for both sanity and spirit. || By: Naimah Qazi ||
Prayer can change your life. Whether it’s meditating or a full-on head and knee bow, taking time out of your day to nurture your soul can go a long way. Here are five tips to incorporate prayer into your daily life.
1. Limit Your Distractions
Find a quiet place where you can spend uninterrupted time. You’ll want to get in the zone, so find a setting you’re comfortable in. Nature is always peaceful. There’s something about birds chirping or waves settling that reminds us that we are not alone. If you like to stay private, park your car somewhere in a secluded place with a view. Whatever you chose to do, limit your distractions as much as possible. This alone will make your day less insane.
2. Acknowledge God’s Greatness
Through praise and worship, we remember that we seek help from the One who makes everything happen. Naturally, acknowledging that there is something bigger out there that can alleviate your stress and do away with your problems helps us gain faith, strengthening prayer time itself.
3. Be Thankful
Be grateful for whatever you can think of. No appreciation is too big or small when it comes to prayer. Pessimism increases stress and drama, so as long as you’re positive, you’ll be on an appreciation rant before you know it! Plus, this allows your mind to recognize the blessings, increasing your faith in the prayer.
4. Confide With Confidence!
Let the Higher Power be your confidant. What you share in your quiet place will not leave the room unless you want it to. Approach God with a sincere heart. You will find all sorts of miracles working on your behalf. As a confidant, God is the best disposer of all affairs! You don’t have to carry the weight of the world anymore. With prayer, you can pass on both worries and wishes to the One who knows how to best handle them.
5. Be Patient
This may be the hardest tip to implement, but it’s every bit worth it. Once you learn to apply patience to your life and daily prayers, you will begin to operate more positively. Like a well-watered garden, your growth and blossoms will happen in time. Patience with prayer is great, because though we know exactly what we want, what we want is not always aligned with what we need. The beauty with God being our trusted guide is that an answered prayer will always be in your best interest. Remember that God can see past our imaginations and create something bigger than we could ever dream of.
