For the last several weeks I’ve been working on a wonderful film called “A Meyer’s Christmas.”
It tells the story of a very dysfunctional family gathering together for Christmas and stars Danny Glover, Nicole Ari Parker, Gabrielle Union, and Omar Epps.
Though we have been having a hilarious time making this film, I know that for many people, the holidays can be a “less than fun time” for some families. For some, this time can bring out stress and repressed emotions. But it doesn’t always have to be this way. If we alter our perspective, take care of our own needs, and really tune into all that we are grateful for, the holiday season can be a great time for our own personal growth.
5 Things To Focus On This Holiday Season
I’m a big believer in expressing gratitude in my life for even the smallest things. This holiday season, we can remind ourselves and our loved ones to stop any negativity and turn into all of the gifts that we are blessed with.
Though we love our families, families aren’t always as picture perfect as they appear on TV. This time of year gives us an opportunity to adjust our attitude, change our perspective, and forgive each other for previous grievances and begin again.
This is a great time of year to begin a new habit. If you are not already serving your community or making yourself of value to the larger world, this is the time of year to start a new habit. And charity have to cost a dime. We all have gifts and the greatest gift of all, is to share our gifts with others.
This is always been a popular time of year to begin new personal habits. A new diet, a new workout program etc. But it’s also sounds and opportunities take on greater deeper challenges. This is a good time to do inner work. By jounaling, introspection, prayer and meditation, we can learn so much about ourselves. Oftentimes this inner work will give us insite to the deeper issues that are causing us over eat, carry negative emotion and other behaviors we try to remedy with New Year’s resolutions.
To me this is what it’s all about. No matter the time of year. But the holiday season offers a unique opportunity to express love to family, friends, community, anyone we may encounter really. For whatever reason, it is during this time of year that people’s hearts seem to be more open to receiving love- giving us all a wonderful opportunity to give it.
