Setting New Year resolutions are a time-honored, cultural ritual. Love ’em or hate ’em, every New Year inspires us all to look at where we’ve been and where we would like to go, and shape an intention around that future goal.
I think resolutions are great. Honestly, I don’t know why we wait until the New Year to set them, we can freely set them anytime because every new moment is a new opportunity (but that’s another post!)
For now, let’s look at our traditional new year resolution. Here are 3 things to keep in mind as you step into 2017 with new goals and ambitions.
Kimberly’s Quick Guide To Setting Your New Year Resolutions
1. Set realistic expectations.
Every step in the right direction, no matter how small, is significant. If your goal is to cut back on sugar, maybe consider starting with one day at a time rather than going cold turkey. You are on a path, which consists of step. That’s a beautiful thing.

2. Keep your eyes on your own road.
One of the quickest paths to frustration and disillusionment is that of comparing ourselves to others. We are all on our own journey – allow that.
Honor where you are at this moment, give thanks for that and create a journey ahead that truly reflects you and your dreams – not the dreams of society or family or any other standard. Your life, your road, your resolution.
3. Allow change.
Sometimes we set a resolution and find that things have gone astray – the box of chocolates… It’s ok. Forgive yourself. Don’t let one mistake take you completely off the road to your goal. Simply reassess, modify or totally change the resolution if necessary and begin again.
Like I said above, every new moment is a new opportunity to begin again.
Our lives are a constant presentation of opportunities to try new things, learn, grow and begin the process again.
That’s the real secret to the whole resolution thing – there never really is an ending only many exciting chances to get to explore new avenues to new lessons, new evolutions and most importantly just to get to know and love ourselves more and more.
And that’s a really, really beautiful thing.
Happy New Year!
