The Power Of Positive Thinking

One single thought has the incredible ability to affect your entire day.

As we all know, life is not perfect. It can throw us curveballs when we least expect it. And oftentimes, we strike out. Strike after strike, we may find it hard to stay positive. We let these negative thoughts consume us and affect how we behave. But as humans, we have the ability to adapt, the ability to learn from our mistakes, and choose happiness.

Happiness is a choice.

And it’s in our reach if we allow it to be. Staying positive is easier said than done. But that does not mean it’s impossible. We are guided through life by the choices we make. And those choices are determined by how we think and feel.

Think of the first thought in your head the second you wake up. That thought can affect your energy, the way you communicate, and your motivation throughout the day.

There are countless things that can affect your behavior. It’s just a matter of monitoring those thoughts and maintaining a positive attitude.

Check out these practical ways to a joyful life.

Just recently, a friend and I discussed how we can reduce negativity in our lives. He told me these six simple words:

Pull the weeds from your garden.

The garden represents your life. When tending a garden, there is plenty of maintenance to do in order to see it blossom and thrive. To do so, you cut and prune unwanted weeds. From there, you water the soil. Over time, the garden will grow and blossom into something beautiful.

Life requires a lot of maintenance.

Like the garden, there is plenty to do for us to thrive. Life requires our attention and action. When we have a negative thought, the worst we can do is… nothing.

If you allow weeds to grow, soon enough, they’ll fill your garden with… even more weeds.  Or, in the analogy to life, more toxicity and negativity. We have to learn how to prune that negativity away. And like the water and soil, tend to the damages, allowing ourselves to grow and eventually, helping us develop positivity and grit to do better.

Show your true grit when it comes to hard times.

Positive thinking is not something that can be achieved overnight. It takes time and patience. If you are like me, you probably tend to overthink and let negative thoughts get the worst of you. But it’s important to learn that pain and negativity is only temporary. Positive thinking, over time, will only help you in the long-run.

With a positive attitude, you become a better version of yourself. Below are 4 things I learned by thinking more positively.

1. Beauty starts with you

“I need my beauty sleep.”

It’s no secret that sleep is a defining factor in beauty. Negative thinking can cause us to stay up at night, tossing and turning, forming countless negative scenarios in our heads. This can affect our energy levels, our willingness to go through the day, and even cause skin damage.

But with a positive attitude, you rejuvenate your body and mind. And it will show both inside and out. –Hopefully while still getting your eight hours!

2. Nip stress in the bud

Negative thinking can cause a tremendous amount of stress. The worst thing you can do to yourself is let those thoughts consume you. Positive thinking can help with stress management, allowing you to be more optimistic and enabling you to think rationally and be more productive.

Whether you use essential oils or yoga to relieve your stress, it’s essential that you take time to wind down and show yourself self-care.

3. Be your own motivation

The number one motivator in your life is yourself. You can only do it if you think you can do it. I am sure we are all familiar with The Little Engine That Could, an illustrated children’s book of a train pushing up a hill, repeatedly saying to herself, “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.”

Thinking positively can give you that motivation and courage to push through any obstacle.

4. Take that window of opportunity

When one door closes, another opens. In life, we do not always get what we want. We either accept it, or do something about it. With the right attitude, you have the ability to find and choose the right opportunities. Sometimes an opportunity may not be what you are looking for. But know that any opportunity is there to help you grow.

Don’t be afraid to strike out. We all make mistakes and sometimes get ourselves in situations less than ideal.  But even during those challenging periods of our lives, you have control over your thoughts, behaviors, and actions. You may not have chosen what happened to you, but you can choose how you will deal with it now. And in that way, you may influence what happens in the future.

Remember that with every positive thought comes a positive outcome.
