Recipe: Vegan Eggnog

With Christmas just around the corner, you might be planning the menu for your holiday get-together, featuring none other than the classic Christmas drink: Eggnog.

Wait a minute – can vegans drink eggnog?  After all, eggnog requires milk, cream, and eggs, all of which are animal products, easily steering vegans toward the mulled apple cider instead.

But wait! There is such a thing as vegan eggnog!

Whether you’re planning for your holiday party or just want a festive smoothie, we’ve got a solution for your vegan needs.

Need a side for your holiday dinner but don’t want to stand over the stove for hours? Make these slow cooker garlic mashed potatoes.

This eggnog recipe by Tracy Russell at Incredible Smoothies combines almond milk with frozen bananas, dates, and spices for a wonderfully thick and delicious drink that tastes like it’s almost Christmas.  Not only is it a tasty and festive beverage, but much healthier than the traditional version, using raw eggs.

Add a finger of your favorite distilled spirit (a good spiced rum, cognac, or bourbon) for the perfect libation at your holiday party.

While you’re in the kitchen, you may as well whip up this quick spiced cranberry sauce.

Vegan Eggnog


1-1/4 cup plain almond milk
2 frozen bananas, peeled and sliced
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 date, soaked for 10 minutes
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (alcohol-free recommended)
dash of ground clove
dash of sea salt
1/2 cup spinach (optional)


1. Start by adding the liquid to your blender first and blend all the ingredients together on high for 20 seconds.
2. Garnish with a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg if desired.
