Skin Detoxing Healthy Smoothie Recipe: Aloe Vera & Kale

The first time I ever had a kale smoothie my taste buds were as confused as my eyesight.

Before this, I hadn’t consumed anything in the color of leafy green and while questioning my beverage decision at the organic juice shop, I regretfully wished I had opted for a quick, relatively painless shot of wheatgrass instead.

$7 dollars and a face full of cringe later, a bright idea hit me — don’t give up, switch it up! Kale and aloe vera have so many health benefits, there must be a way to get them to please the palate. For starters, these greenies are both super-foods rich in Vitamins A, C, antioxidants, and an unbelievable amount of other vitamins and minerals. Above all of this, they can boost your immune system, reduce high blood pressure, and lower high cholesterol. Keepers? Certainly.


When starting a healthy or whole foods journey, diving straight into the mean green kale machine may get you to back off before you get to enjoy its plentiful benefits. I found that the best way to drink bitter veggies and plants such as kale and aloe vera is to ease your way into them. When you make a fruity concoction at home, by either juicing or blending, the taste can be customized and stay completely in your hands.This is one of my favorite healthy smoothie recipes made with aloe vera and kale that is delicious for health newbies and veterans alike.

Skin Detox- Aloe Vera and Kale Smoothie Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup of water
  • ½ cup of aloe vera gel (from leaf, cut and filleted)
  • 3 kale leaves
  • 1 cup of mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 whole peach
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of ice
  • Honey or agave nectar (add to taste)


Directions:

Take a leaf of aloe vera, either from your garden, a nursery, or a natural foods grocery store, and filet it. Extract the gel from the leaf. Discard the leaf. Add all ingredients, beginning with liquids and soft fruits and vegetables, to the blender first. Ice and frozen fruits should be added last. Blend until drink has a smooth consistency. With the added berries and peach, this skin detoxing smoothie isn’t an intimidating green drink — it’s a soft magenta color, welcoming you into a fruity, nutritious taste.
